One Battle After Another September 29, 2025

Seeing the trailer for the new film, One Battle After Another, I thought it would be an action-packed thriller, and though it had action, the focus was more on Leonardo di Caprio protecting his daughter, which is relevant today. It is difficult to write a story with a ton of action, and still have the emotional weight to it, to give it depth, but it is not impossible. My point is it was a fun movie I just feel like it could have used a few more action scenes, because Benicio del Toro was fun as di Caprio's sensei and Sean Penn was a fun villain. If you are interested in reading books with touching stories and nonstop action, the novels in my series The Covert Militia Campaigns are available at Smashwords.com and soon will be on Amazon, where you can find books by many independent authors telling stories they always wanted to tell, and you can click on the link.  Smashwords.com

The Long Walk September 15, 2025

The Long Walk, which was based on Stephen King's first published novel, which was under his pen name, was a damn good flick. There was not much excitement, but throughout the movie, when the contestants were walking, it established their relationships well. Mark Hammil did a good job as the major overseeing the walk, and I think that was the first time I ever heard him say a swear word, I don't know why I find that weird. Though I favor action movies, and while there was not much of that, it was still entertaining, as it established relationships, and building the tension, and revealing the protagonists' connection with the major.  I always thought books were the best source material for movies, and if you are interested in my books and the work of many independent authors, click on the link.  Smashwords.com

If you love baseball and a good crime thriller, I highly recommend the new movie Caught Stealing. Austin Butler tells how a former baseball player, who was injured in a car crash which ended his career, and now serves as a bartender in New York City. While watching his punk rock neighbor's cat, he gets roped in with criminals who think he hid something his neighbor was watching for them and finds himself running from a gang, who threatens to murder his girlfriend and family. All in all, it was a fun crime thriller, and if you are interested in crime thriller novels, and the work of independent authors, click on the link.  Smashwords.com
