Modern Movies. October 15, 2024

 Movies recently have been given a lot of flak, due to having little to no originality, or being based on properties people are already too familiar with. A lot of people are saying they are not good anymore, but that is a matter of perspective. I say this, because I always enjoyed going to movie in theaters, and ever since The Lord of the Rings trilogy was first released in theaters, going to movies has been my thing I look forward to all week. I sometimes worry about theaters shutting down for another pandemic, but do not want to think too far ahead in the future and enjoy the time we have. 

There are ways I think that can be remedied, such as announce a movie is being made based on a bestselling book and give audiences time to read it before it is released. One can also do something unique with a property well known to the general public, as long as it does not insult them, like Joker: Folie ah Deux did, so they say. I will stop there, but I need to remind we are less than a month away, and if we elect the wrong candidate, we may not have movies to go to.   I have already written my own personal review of my latest novel, The Primal Realm, but this is a short blog about what the parallel world the title refers to is like. It is a primitive world where every animal that ever existed on Earth thrives. The land they see is partly desert and rainforest, which is why the people who live there call it the Desert Jungle. That includes extinct ones, such as dinosaurs. There also nomadic hunter tribes, similar to the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the Southwest, and a bit of the Inca, the Maya, and the Aztecs.  They mostly travel on horseback, but often employ dinosaurs and other large animals to assists them in agriculture and war. As a means of avoiding the Covert Militia going into White Savior territory, there are also feudal kingdoms. The first one they journey to is called Eoforham and its principal city is called Edmont. How Westerns influenced me. August 13, 2024

 Westerns are my dad's favorite kind of movie, and thus I grew up watching a lot of them. They had more of a grip on my brother, because when we were kids, he always wanted to play adventure games that took place in the western United States between the years 1865 to 1895. Though I liked Westerns, I more often wanted to play games that took place in the present, so I could use vehicles, and he we always argued about it. I tried compromising but he never agreed about anything. I already wrote a little about it, and though that also gave me inspiration for books, I will talk about how the Western genre inspired me.  Westerns are a good genre for visual storytelling and for contrasting characters, and for making the setting be practically a character. They can help you get to know the characters as the story progresses, and have characters discover humanity as they go.
