 If you like horror films, I would highly recommend Primate, but if not, you should skip it, especially if you don't like seeing a rabid chimpanzee rip people's faces off. The majority of the movie is a bunch of kids hiding in a pool, bewildered about the ape's condition, and the rest is easily predicted. The one thing I like, is it took place somewhere I'd rather be this time of year, when Tennessee flip flops between pleasant and freezing cold, and I always feel like a minority when people wish for snow, but that is off topic.   Prior to the Barbie movie, most films based on classic toys were criticized the instant they were announced, but that is not what I am talking about. When I heard that Paramount was planning to make live action G.I. Joe movies, I was excited because they were my favorite childhood toys, and I still collect them as a hobby for sentimental reasons. I had colleagues when at Kroger who often told me it might be good, and they were mostly teenagers who did not know any better.  Case in point, I enjoyed the first one, Rise of Cobra, as nothing groundbreaking but a fun way to spend time, which is what a movie is meant to be, and the same for the solo Snake Eyes one. However, the one I am talking about now is the second movie, Retaliation. It not only featured Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who is always fun no matter what, and Bruce Willis, who reminded me of Die Hard, it also stuck to something a sequel should do and in some way was a head of its time. Anaconda December 29, 2025

 I remember liking the 1997 version of Anaconda OK, and I felt the same about the new one. The performances were funny, and there was some nice commentary on how nothing in Hollywood is original, and there were jokes about how movies are made today.   The new movie Bugonia had nothing that original in it, but it was written and directed to where it's twist ending would surprise people. One of the things that led to it was Emma Stone's performance, and it eventually looked like she was only telling the conspiracy theorists who kidnapped her she really was an alien, so she could escape and inform the authorities. I'm sure a few people picked it up early on, but for me I realized it when she ran out of the ambulance. I can do without Stone killing all humans on Earth at the end, however, maybe somewhere in the story she can revive them all with no prior knowledge, but that is only my wishful thinking.
