 Sorry, I haven't blogged in a while, but I'm back to it. 

I didn't play a lot of Mortal Kombat when I was a kid and when I did it was at friends' houses. Even so, I enjoyed the fight scenes in the 1995 movie, and it was the same in the last movie in 2021. When I saw bait for a sequel, I had a feeling it would be the same, and when I saw Karl Urban was going to play Johnny Cage, I got a little excited. It was not only because Karl was in my favorite movie, because in truth all actors in Lord of the Rings are, and another way to describe him is an underrated legend. Like with the other Mortal Kombat movies I've seen, the action scenes were fun, and Johnny's banter was fun. I liked the way they attempted to make us relate to Johnny by having him be an out of work action movie actor, feeling defeated, and see that he had a universe to protect. 

In the Covert Militia Campaigns, Jack Stamper's only desire is to play hard rock music, while the Third World War interferes with his bands' gigs. Some of his young recruits don't take it seriously, until they lose friends and family. To be a contrast to Jack, some of his enemies who have been indoctrinated by the terrorists he fights against, also aspire to be musicians, and were drawn like moths with the promise of perfecting their musical talent, but were only used to spread anarchy and chaos.  I remember liking the 1997 version of Anaconda OK, and I felt the same about the new one. The performances were funny, and there was some nice commentary on how nothing in Hollywood is original, and there were jokes about how movies are made today. How To Make A Killing was a good dark comedy thriller, telling the story of how Glen Powell was a man born to a wealthy family whose mother was exiled tries to prosper. The family that exiled him and his mother was not a loving family and were greedy, inhuman, jerks who saw destitute people as exposition. There was only one relative who was kind to him, and as the movie progressed it was clear revenge was leaving his mind, but things happened that amplified his desire for their inheritance.  One other thing I need to say is there was a scene when Powell's youngest cousin was singing karaoke to Papa Roach's "Last Resort" and whenever I hear that song I always feel like I'm going to see Lord of the Rings for the first time, because it came on my car radio each time I was on my way to the theater.   The new movie Bugonia had nothing that original in it, but it was written and directed to where it's twist ending would surprise people. One of the things that led to it was Emma Stone's performance, and it eventually looked like she was only telling the conspiracy theorists who kidnapped her she really was an alien, so she could escape and inform the authorities. I'm sure a few people picked it up early on, but for me I realized it when she ran out of the ambulance. I can do without Stone killing all humans on Earth at the end, however, maybe somewhere in the story she can revive them all with no prior knowledge, but that is only my wishful thinking.
