Thoughts on Knock at the Cabin. February 5, 2023

 Seeing the trailer for Knock at the Cabin, I had a feeling about what was going to happen. Because Metallica Four Horsemen is my favorite bike riding song, I have a feeling that any movie trailer that says something about the apocalypse and involves four people, I almost always see where it is going. Case in point, it did not get good until about halfway through, and it was entertaining enough after that started. 

I do not know if the book my mom said she read is the one it was based on, but it probably is. Also, with M. Night Shyamalan, you can almost always see where he is going. He has been trying to shock us ever since The Sixth Sense, and though he is in no way a bad director, he needs to try doing something we can't see coming. One thing you can always expect in one of Shyamalan's movies is to see him in a cameo, and if you do not like being surprised, and find getting what you predict amusing, I highly recommend it.

My mom and I discovered this website and saw it was the best place to start a blog and see it will help me gain readers interested in the action fantasy thrillers I write.

  I have already written my own personal review of my latest novel, The Primal Realm, but this is a short blog about what the parallel world the title refers to is like. It is a primitive world where every animal that ever existed on Earth thrives. The land they see is partly desert and rainforest, which is why the people who live there call it the Desert Jungle. That includes extinct ones, such as dinosaurs. There also nomadic hunter tribes, similar to the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the Southwest, and a bit of the Inca, the Maya, and the Aztecs.  They mostly travel on horseback, but often employ dinosaurs and other large animals to assists them in agriculture and war. As a means of avoiding the Covert Militia going into White Savior territory, there are also feudal kingdoms. The first one they journey to is called Eoforham and its principal city is called Edmont. How Westerns influenced me. August 13, 2024

 Westerns are my dad's favorite kind of movie, and thus I grew up watching a lot of them. They had more of a grip on my brother, because when we were kids, he always wanted to play adventure games that took place in the western United States between the years 1865 to 1895. Though I liked Westerns, I more often wanted to play games that took place in the present, so I could use vehicles, and he we always argued about it. I tried compromising but he never agreed about anything. I already wrote a little about it, and though that also gave me inspiration for books, I will talk about how the Western genre inspired me.  Westerns are a good genre for visual storytelling and for contrasting characters, and for making the setting be practically a character. They can help you get to know the characters as the story progresses, and have characters discover humanity as they go.
