Ready Player One April 6, 2023

 Most movies that have to do with Easter are about the crucifixion, which is important. But what is more important is what happened afterwards, when Jesus was resurrected. There are not many movies that have to do with the latter part, or just have fun with the holiday. The reason I am watching Ready Player One, as I write this, is because throughout the movie, they talk about Easter eggs. 

I did not read the book it was based on, but I enjoyed the movie, even if I don't watch it much. The action scenes were fun, even if they were obviously fake. There were a lot of things that were inconsistent, and the villains' schemes could have been explained better. It was still entertaining, though. That likely had something to do with Spielberg's direction. I am not saying he is a bad director. He is good at camera directing, setting up scenes, and creating an atmosphere, but not as good at directing actors, or explaining storylines in short. Even so, he did direct one of my favorite movies, that is an unofficial Easter movie, but I talked about it last night.

  I have already written my own personal review of my latest novel, The Primal Realm, but this is a short blog about what the parallel world the title refers to is like. It is a primitive world where every animal that ever existed on Earth thrives. The land they see is partly desert and rainforest, which is why the people who live there call it the Desert Jungle. That includes extinct ones, such as dinosaurs. There also nomadic hunter tribes, similar to the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the Southwest, and a bit of the Inca, the Maya, and the Aztecs.  They mostly travel on horseback, but often employ dinosaurs and other large animals to assists them in agriculture and war. As a means of avoiding the Covert Militia going into White Savior territory, there are also feudal kingdoms. The first one they journey to is called Eoforham and its principal city is called Edmont. How Westerns influenced me. August 13, 2024

 Westerns are my dad's favorite kind of movie, and thus I grew up watching a lot of them. They had more of a grip on my brother, because when we were kids, he always wanted to play adventure games that took place in the western United States between the years 1865 to 1895. Though I liked Westerns, I more often wanted to play games that took place in the present, so I could use vehicles, and he we always argued about it. I tried compromising but he never agreed about anything. I already wrote a little about it, and though that also gave me inspiration for books, I will talk about how the Western genre inspired me.  Westerns are a good genre for visual storytelling and for contrasting characters, and for making the setting be practically a character. They can help you get to know the characters as the story progresses, and have characters discover humanity as they go. A lot of Westerns have music that befits what is happening and songs that often contrast or match the situation....
