Christmas Movies for the Whole Year December 18, 2023
Because Christmas is a week from today, I would like to talk about movies that are good all year, but fun to watch at Christmas. There are movies that are great at Christmas, such as It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street, Elf, Love Actually, any version of A Christmas Carol, and Christmas Vacation, but they are best at Christmas time. This also goes for such TV specials as Charlie Brown's Christmas and the original Grinch cartoon, but they are only appropriate at Christmas. The ones I watch year-round, have fun with the holiday but aren't restricted to it. I will first mention the first two Home Alone movies, because those might fall into that group. Those are the only ones I've seen, but they are festive with the lights and colors, and using ornaments as booby traps. There is also the family bonding and how nobody should spend Christmas alone. Gremlins has snow, caroling, and a Santa story, plus Gizmo was given as a Christmas present. Batman Returns is dark and grim but has a lot to do with Christmas and the melancholy feeling people sometimes get when they are having a dreary Christmas. Also, Batman is framed for killing somebody at a tree lighting. Lethal Weapon opens at a Christmas party. The underrated action thriller Ronin has only one scene relating to Christmas after their traitor played by Stellan Skarsgard double crosses them with the duplicate case, and Robert Di Nero is at a Christmas festival. At the end, they talk about the IRA making a peace agreement with the British government, and Christmas is a time for peace on Earth. The last one, I will do a full talk about tomorrow, and that is Die Hard. In addition to that, I'm giving my Smashwords debut, The Penitent Warrior, away for free as a Christmas present in the End of Year Sale. It is likely The Primal Realm, The Covert Militia's Second Campaign, will be available next year, so now is a chance to enjoy my Christmas present and many other books by independent authors if you click on the link.
