 I always like road trip films and Drive Away Dolly had fun moments about it. The only thing that annoyed me a little was the lesbians, being lesbians. If they were more subtle it probably would have worked better, such as the flashback that showed what made one of them a lesbian. Also, there were moments where they did things with the contents of the package they came into possession of. I'm usually pretty tolerant of gays, lesbians, and bisexuals, it is transgenders where I draw the line, and will not get into that. My point is, I think it would have been more entertaining if they were subtle about being gay. I do not tell stuff like that to a weekly Bible Study group I attend. I do not see why movie critics think that kind of thing is so artistic. That said, next week Smashwords is doing their 15 read an Ebook week, and I'm giving away The Penitent Warrior, the Covert Militia's First Campaign for free, and I am making progress in editing, The Primal Realm, The Covert Militia's Second Campaign, and if you are interested in reading my work or the work of any other independent authors, click on the link provided.

What The Primal Realm is like. April 9, 2024

  I have already written my own personal review of my latest novel, The Primal Realm, but this is a short blog about what the parallel world the title refers to is like. It is a primitive world where every animal that ever existed on Earth thrives. The land they see is partly desert and rainforest, which is why the people who live there call it the Desert Jungle. That includes extinct ones, such as dinosaurs. There also nomadic hunter tribes, similar to the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the Southwest, and a bit of the Inca, the Maya, and the Aztecs.  They mostly travel on horseback, but often employ dinosaurs and other large animals to assists them in agriculture and war. As a means of avoiding the Covert Militia going into White Savior territory, there are also feudal kingdoms. The first one they journey to is called Eoforham and its principal city is called Edmont. How Westerns influenced me. August 13, 2024

 Westerns are my dad's favorite kind of movie, and thus I grew up watching a lot of them. They had more of a grip on my brother, because when we were kids, he always wanted to play adventure games that took place in the western United States between the years 1865 to 1895. Though I liked Westerns, I more often wanted to play games that took place in the present, so I could use vehicles, and he we always argued about it. I tried compromising but he never agreed about anything. I already wrote a little about it, and though that also gave me inspiration for books, I will talk about how the Western genre inspired me.  Westerns are a good genre for visual storytelling and for contrasting characters, and for making the setting be practically a character. They can help you get to know the characters as the story progresses, and have characters discover humanity as they go.
