Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and its connection with the other Ape movies. May 13, 2024

They say Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes took the franchise in a new direction and they were right. Though the plot twist at the end of the 1968 original film could not be beat, it had a good one in regard to humans being involved. The theme of tolerance was very relevant now, and it talks about how if apes did evolve to be intelligent, can they peacefully share the Earth with humans. That is what the sequel hinted at, and the last two Planet of the Apes movies they used inspiration without directly remaking. This one goes back to the original, or so it would seem, and now it looks as if the next one will.   I have already written my own personal review of my latest novel, The Primal Realm, but this is a short blog about what the parallel world the title refers to is like. It is a primitive world where every animal that ever existed on Earth thrives. The land they see is partly desert and rainforest, which is why the people who live there call it the Desert Jungle. That includes extinct ones, such as dinosaurs. There also nomadic hunter tribes, similar to the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the Southwest, and a bit of the Inca, the Maya, and the Aztecs.  They mostly travel on horseback, but often employ dinosaurs and other large animals to assists them in agriculture and war. How Westerns influenced me. August 13, 2024

 Westerns are my dad's favorite kind of movie, and thus I grew up watching a lot of them. They had more of a grip on my brother, because when we were kids, he always wanted to play adventure games that took place in the western United States between the years 1865 to 1895. Though I liked Westerns, I more often wanted to play games that took place in the present, so I could use vehicles, and he we always argued about it. I tried compromising but he never agreed about anything. I already wrote a little about it, and though that also gave me inspiration for books, I will talk about how the Western genre inspired me.  Westerns are a good genre for visual storytelling and for contrasting characters, and for making the setting be practically a character. They can help you get to know the characters as the story progresses, and have characters discover humanity as they go.
