 I know the classic original Beetlejuice is nostalgia for a lot of people, but for me seeing it once was enough, and I did not watch the cartoon series much. I always found the first one just OK, and I feel that way about the sequel. There were a few moments when I laughed pretty hard, and I liked the character Willem Defoe played. It was interesting seeing a little of Beetlejuice's backstory. On the other hand, I think it probably would have been better if it was made in 1991, while the cartoon series was still on the air. Making sequels after ten years, just feels like a cash grab and fan service, but that does not mean it automatically makes the movie bad. It takes real effort to make a movie good, and sometimes it does work. Even so, I did not hate that movie, the same way I did not hate the first one.   I have already written my own personal review of my latest novel, The Primal Realm, but this is a short blog about what the parallel world the title refers to is like. It is a primitive world where every animal that ever existed on Earth thrives. The land they see is partly desert and rainforest, which is why the people who live there call it the Desert Jungle. That includes extinct ones, such as dinosaurs. There also nomadic hunter tribes, similar to the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the Southwest, and a bit of the Inca, the Maya, and the Aztecs.  They mostly travel on horseback, but often employ dinosaurs and other large animals to assists them in agriculture and war.  Westerns are my dad's favorite kind of movie, and thus I grew up watching a lot of them. They had more of a grip on my brother, because when we were kids, he always wanted to play adventure games that took place in the western United States between the years 1865 to 1895. Though I liked Westerns, I more often wanted to play games that took place in the present, so I could use vehicles, and he we always argued about it. I tried compromising but he never agreed about anything. I already wrote a little about it, and though that also gave me inspiration for books, I will talk about how the Western genre inspired me.  Westerns are a good genre for visual storytelling and for contrasting characters, and for making the setting be practically a character. They can help you get to know the characters as the story progresses, and have characters discover humanity as they go.
