Red One November 18, 2024

A lot of movies this year have started strong and then bombed and were not well received by critics, although I enjoyed them. Some that did not succeed at the box office, became hits when they were available for streaming and if they were panned by critics their opinions softened when they saw them again. That said, I enjoyed Red One, mainly because I like action movies, and I am pleased to see we are getting more that take place at Christmas.  A lot of it was a little corny because they are mimicking the classic Christmas movie tropes, but the action scenes were fun and the organization of mythical characters. The Rock and Chris Evans gave good performances, and J.K. Simmons was a good Santa. In the end it was about forgiveness and seeing your inner child, which is what Christmas is about, nostalgia and forgiveness, and atonement. A lot of effort was put into making it, and you should give credit to when it showed. Many authors do put a lot of time and effort into their work, beca...

Heretic. November 10, 2024

I did not hate the new movie, Heretic, but I am not likely to see it again. It has an interesting premise, especially with the way churches are now. They talk about how every religion is just a form of control, which is not true. Hugh Grant's character compared the world's religions to board games and fast food, to get his point across, which I do not agree with. I am on hiatus from my Bible study group because they talk negatively about people that I am pretty tolerate and they all voted for the presidential candidate I did not vote for. I will return after the holidays, and not when asked, I will say it was personal and can't talk about. In the thirteen years I attended the group, I had to keep a lot of personal thoughts to myself, but that doesn't mean I don't write about them in my books. If the president re-elect does the terrible ...

What MY Books Have To Do With Elections. November 4, 2024

I normally try to avoid politics in my books, but because tomorrow is Election Day, I have to say a few things about it. The presidents who have major rolls in my books are fictional characters, and I never say whether they are Republicans or Democrats. Even thought at the moment, The Covert Militia Campaigns take place in 1998, the president is made up for fictional purposes. I never try to make people who read it vote for the same candidate I do, because the message is voting is about making your own decision, and that if people would put aside their differences and concentrate on what they have in common there would be a lot less evil in this world.
