I've always found releasing movies on Christmas Day a weird idea, but in the last two Christmases there were unexpected family emergencies when relatives of mine got sick, it made me realize that means theaters will be open. Also, Sam's Sports Grill, which I always eat at before going to a movie, was open from five to eleven, so I went to see the new Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown. It told the story of Dylan's early career, and his friendship with Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash, and his relationship with Joan Baez. Early, in the movie, studio executives would not let Dylan record his original songs, saying the songs he was covering were new once. Later, it showed him start using electric guitars and a lot of people did not like it. I was not born yet, and like his acoustic and electric music, and I'm sure a lot of it was made up or exaggerated.   I have already written my own personal review of my latest novel, The Primal Realm, but this is a short blog about what the parallel world the title refers to is like. It is a primitive world where every animal that ever existed on Earth thrives. The land they see is partly desert and rainforest, which is why the people who live there call it the Desert Jungle. That includes extinct ones, such as dinosaurs. There also nomadic hunter tribes, similar to the Native Americans of the Great Plains and the Southwest, and a bit of the Inca, the Maya, and the Aztecs.  They mostly travel on horseback, but often employ dinosaurs and other large animals to assists them in agriculture and war. As a means of avoiding the Covert Militia going into White Savior territory, there are also feudal kingdoms. The first one they journey to is called Eoforham and its principal city is called Edmont. How Westerns influenced me. August 13, 2024

 Westerns are my dad's favorite kind of movie, and thus I grew up watching a lot of them. They had more of a grip on my brother, because when we were kids, he always wanted to play adventure games that took place in the western United States between the years 1865 to 1895. Though I liked Westerns, I more often wanted to play games that took place in the present, so I could use vehicles, and he we always argued about it. I tried compromising but he never agreed about anything. I already wrote a little about it, and though that also gave me inspiration for books, I will talk about how the Western genre inspired me.  Westerns are a good genre for visual storytelling and for contrasting characters, and for making the setting be practically a character. They can help you get to know the characters as the story progresses, and have characters discover humanity as they go.
