Hollywood's trouble June 3, 2024
All year I have been hearing journalist gripe about Hollywood's lack of originality. In a lot of ways, they are right, with sequels to movies thirty or forty years old coming out. I do not think that is a terrible idea, I just think it might have been better if they made them earlier while they were still in the public zeitgeist. Even so, we have seen some movies that were not sequels and spinoffs that were entertaining, and some based on existing material that worked, such as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes., and Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga was a lot of fun, even if it was identical to the other Mad Max movies. That said, as a novelist, I read a lot of books, that have not been adapted to movies, and I think that is where filmmakers should look for ideas. It might take the audience a little time to read the books while they are in production, and even less after the trailers are in theaters, but it can benefit two types of people with finances, the authors and the movie industry. People may not be finished with the books before they see the movie, but it nonetheless will give them a better understanding of what they are watching. That was just a suggestion, and if you are interested in reading my work, and the work of many other independent authors, click on the link. Smaswhwords.com
